I’ll tell you right now that the beer is a rip off at $6 because it comes in a small plastic cup rimmed with cinnamon and sugar. They also have seasonal Pumpkin beer supplied by John Harvard’s Union Station Brewery for sale. There isn’t much food at the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular, however you can get your hands on carnival-style snack like churros, roasted nuts, kettle corn, and dough boys. It made for an impressive sight and a great way to end the walk through the zoo. One of my favorite parts of the stroll through the Jack-O-Lantern displays was an area I dubbed, “Club Pumpkin.” Basically, there was a fog machine, techno music, some creepy mechanical laughter, and pumpkins shooting way up into the sky over curving over the path. I confess that a friendly employee totally caught me quietly singing along and said, “I love seeing where the people stop to enjoy the music!” In some spots, I just stopped so I could listen to some of the songs. As we walked through the displays, each state had it’s own sound system with its own state-oriented music playing. It’s eerie, but only in the best (dare I say, “romantic?”) fall way. Inside the zoo and pumpkin area, there isn’t much light at all except for what emanates from the glowing pumpkins. I enjoyed it thoroughly, but I can only imagine that the employees of the park must have been going insane hearing those two songs on a loop no matter how awesome they are. That took me back in time quite a bit as well.
JACK O LANTERN SPECTACULAR ROGER WILLIAMS MOVIE
The park was off to a good start! The music at the entrance alternated between Thriller and the theme song to the movie Gremlins. Heading into the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular, the first thing I heard was Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” emanating from the sound system. If you haven’t gone this season, make sure to check out the pumpkins this year. The majority of this post is primarily photos because there isn’t a lot I can say that would do the experience justice.
This year, the theme was “Pumpkinville USA,” which was basically a trip through the different states in the U.S. The first time I went, the theme was Countries All Over the World, so walking through the displays was like quickly visiting numerous pumpkin-countries. The pumpkins range from the plain crudely carved Jack-o-lantern to the intricate masterpieces depicting scenes or portraits focused on the theme that year. While I’ve only had the opportunity to go twice, the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular at Roger Williams Park Zoo is one of my favorite new traditions.įor those of you that don’t know, the Roger Williams Park Zoo puts on an incredible display of thousands of pumpkins every year right inside the zoo area. It’s just the best time of year in New England with the best weather, the best food, and so much seasonal character. That way you can pick over theirs if you need additional ones for social.I love fall, Halloween, and Thanksgiving. Also, the other person or people in your party should hop on the foto taking bandwagon if possible. I’ve found that setting is my tried and true when it comes to walking away with clear, non-blurry, and Insta-Worthy photos from JOLS. And start leaning into PORTRAIT mode on your I-Phone cam. (They are open every single nite now thru All Hallows’ Eve.) Layer up, so you can stay cozy or cool depending on that night’s temps. My tips: Get tickets early at RWPZoo.Org/JOLS. Long story made mini? You won’t wanna miss this one. In the end there are a few faves below (dedicated to all my fellow 70’s and 80’s fans out there, wink), but this is an exhibit that best case scenario, really needs to be seen in real (non-digital) life. I was truly torn between over-sharing all the pics and video we took on Thursday night and just giving a sampling or taste. who maybe waits all year for Halloween or your friend group of besties. It’s perfect for a family outing with the kiddos, a date night with your s.o. It’s an upbeat and entirely joyous experience you’ll want to share with the folks you love. Between the catchy music and the visual feast, you’ll be so glad you got tix. The theme this year is 150 Years Of Music and the areas devoted to the different eras are mesmerizing.
And I was ecstatic to be invited to walk the paths (last year was strictly drive thru) and cross the bridges to check out the over 5,000 incredible looking hand crafted (also lit by LED and humble brag, I got to meet one of the super talented artists behind the 🎃’s) pumpkins.
